ALL MORETTI COMPATIBLE _________________________________ So, what is all this? If you don't know, here's the scoop! Dichroic literally means two colors. Dichroic glass is produced by an expensive process involving vacuum chambers, high temperatures and thin coatings applied using electricity. On clear, dichroic glass looks completely different colors depending on whether you view it in transmitted (light passing through the glass) or reflected (light bouncing off the glass) light. If you look at the large sheet of dichro we have propped up on a kiln post in the photo, you will see that the end that is over the black looks blue, while the end that is over the white looks yellow! What the photo can't show you is the almost eerie shimmery quality of dichro. On black, only the reflected color is visible, but the black makes the coatings really pop! There is nothing else like it. |
Copper Luster, also know as "pixie dust" is a very fine mica powder that you can apply to your beads for an incredible metalic look. Below is a photo of a tiny core vessel I made with some luster applied to make it look ancient. You can coat your entire bead with it, case it over with clear glass for a more subtle look, or just dash a bit on as in the photo. Used properly this package will go a very long way! Tube Mandrels are fat stainless steel mandrels that are hollow. Sure, you can use them to make regular beads with a 3/16" hole if you want, but the real fun begins when you gather some glass over the hole in the end and blow! That's right, you can get into miniature glassblowing right over your bead torch. |
