Edco 1/8" 1.25 mil Copper FoilUse for foiling extra thin glass and the edges of jewels. Can also be used to lay thin "faux" solder lines across your glass. (Be careful not to overheat the foil as you tin it over or you can crack your glass.)
|
Edco 5/32" 1.5 mil Copper Foil *This foil will just barely make it over the edges of most glass and require a great deal of effort and good eyes to apply. It is best used only on small areas where the finest line is required as in facial details.
|
Edco 3/16" 1.5 mil Copper Foil **Good for a fine line in smaller work.
|
Edco 7/32" 1.5 mil Copper Foil ****
This is our recommendation for your
It gives a relatively fine line, but robust enough for moderate size panels without major concern for reinforcement.
|
Edco 1/4" 1.5 mil Copper Foil ***This foil is good as you begin to work larger and need more strength, or when a heavier solder line is desired for aesthetic reasons.
|
Edco 5/16" 1.5 mil Copper FoilUse this foil if you really need extra strength. Can be used strategically on only certain lines within a panel as a type of reinforcement, or throughout the piece if you are trying to emulate the look of lead came.
|
Venture 3/8" 1.5 mil Copper Foil *This foil is good for "plating". The process of bonding two pieces of glass back to back for artistic effect. The foil can be wrapped around two pieces of glass at the same time creating a glass sandwich. Tiffany used plating to create his most dramatic effects.
|
Edco 1/2" 1.5 mil Copper Foil *This foil can be used for plating multiple pieces and for other specialty work.

When working with clear and other relatively see-through
glasses it is possible to see the inside edge of your foil through the
glass. If you are not going to patina your work, the solder
will be silver but copper color will show too, detracting from the beauty
of your work.
Silver backed foils solve this problem. They are also the foil of
choice for foiling mirror pieces.

New Wave Foil
![]()
New wave foil has a scalloped edge that is great both around a suncatcher
or foiled around special pieces in your work. You can add a ruffle
to a dress or dress up the clear glass in your stained glass picture
frames.

Sheet Foil

Sheet foil comes in 12" by 12" square sheets and is great for creating custom filigree work, among other things.
Just cover an entire piece of glass with the foil and cut out sections with a knife. I made a dragon with really cool wings this way.
